Business Mediation Competitie

Negotiation is commonplace in every aspect of the business world. How effective are you (as a student) in a business negotiation? And in a negotiation facilitated by a mediator? How do you ensure reaching an agreement with your counterpart, maximizing results for yourself? How do you operate in a real-life business setting?
Who, when & where?
The competition is organized by the Center for Conflict Resolution (CvC) (the initiator of this event) in collaboration with the Dutch Mediators Association (NMv) and the renowned law firm Houthoff.
The event will take place on April 18 and 19, 2024, at Houthoff, a law firm located at the Zuid-as in Amsterdam.
What will you do?
Form a team of up to 4 students. Find a coach with mediation experience to support your team. As a team, negotiate a business case with another student team from the Netherlands. The negotiations will be led and evaluated by a team of experienced professional mediators. Your team must include at least one law student playing the role of an attorney in the mediation.
NOTE: Despite the competition’s name, the focus is not on being a good mediator but on being a good business negotiator in a business mediation setting.
The competition is named Business Mediation Competition because it is based on the prestigious Parisian international variant (ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition), where hundreds of students from around the world participate. In 2024, it will be organized for the 19th time.
What can you win?
Participating means gaining an inspiring and educational experience and the opportunity to make interesting connections. The main prize of the Dutch Competition is €1,000, provided by the NMv to cover travel and accommodation costs for participation in the ’20th International Commercial Mediation Competition 2025′ in February 2025 in Paris (see: https://iccwbo.org/dispute-resolution-services/professional-development/international-commercial-mediation-competition/).
Rules and costs
Registration is open until March 31, 2024. After registration, you will receive all the details about the competition, the rules, and tips on how to prepare. The main condition for participation is that you are enrolled as a student at a university in the academic year 2023/2024. There are no costs associated with participation this year.

Onderhandelen is in elke aspect van de zakenwereld aan de orde van de dag.
Hoe effectief ben jij (student) in een zakelijke onderhandeling? En in een onderhandeling die door een mediator wordt begeleid? Hoe zorg je dat je met je wederpartij tot overeenstemming komt? Met optimaal resultaat voor jezelf? Hoe opereer je in een real life business setting?
Wie, wanneer & waar?
De Business mediation competition 2024 wordt georganiseerd door het Centrum voor Conflicthantering (CvC) (initiatiefnemer van dit event) in samenwerking met de Nederlandse Mediatorsvereniging (NMv) en het gerenommeerd advocatenkantoor Houthoff.
Het evenement vindt plaats op 18 en 19 april 2024 bij Houthoff, advocatenkantoor aan de Zuid-as in Amsterdam.
Wat ga je doen?
Je formeert een team van maximaal 4 studenten. Je zoekt een coach die jullie team ondersteunt, iemand met mediation-ervaring. Als team ga je onderhandelen over een business casus met een ander studententeam uit Nederland. De onderhandelingen worden geleid en beoordeeld door een team van ervaren professionele mediators. Je team bestaat uit minimaal één rechtenstudent, die de rol van advocaat speelt in de mediation.
LET OP: anders dan de naam doet vermoeden, gaat het er bij de competitie niet om of je een goede mediator bent, maar of je een goede zakelijk onderhandelaar bent in een business mediation setting.
De competitie heet Business Mediation Competition omdat die is gebaseerd op de prestigieuze Parijse, internationale variant (ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition) waar honderden studenten van over de hele wereld aan meedoen en die in 2024 al voor de 19de keer wordt georganiseerd.
Wat kan je winnen?
Meedoen betekent in ieder geval een inspirerende en leerzame ervaring en de mogelijkheid tot het leggen van interessante contacten. De hoofdprijs van de Nederlandse Competitie is € 1000,- , ter beschikking gesteld door de NMv voor tegemoetkoming in de reis- en verblijfkosten bij een deelnameplaats in de ‘20th International Commercial Mediation Competition 2025’ in februari 2025 in Parijs (zie: https://iccwbo.org/dispute-resolution-services/professional-development/international-commercial-mediation-competition/).
Regels en kosten
Inschrijven kan tot 31 maart 2024. Na inschrijving ontvang je van ons alle ins en outs over de competitie en de spelregels en daarnaast tips hoe je je kunt voorbereiden. Belangrijkste voorwaarde voor deelname is dat je in het studiejaar 2023/2024 als student ingeschreven staat bij een universiteit. Er zijn dit jaar geen kosten verbonden aan deelname.
